Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has attended a parliamentary event to hear what actions government can take to address gaps in services for people affected by neurological conditions. 

At least one in six people live with a neurological condition - affecting the brain, spinal cord, or nerves. Conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS) and epilepsy can impact anyone at any time, no matter the age, circumstance, or gender. 

At the event, hosted by The Neurological Alliance, James heard about the biggest issues affecting people with neurological conditions, and how MPs could help put these on the political agenda.

MPs and peers were told about the latest findings from the My Neuro Survey – published in the 'Together For The 1 in 6' report – which asked 8,500 people living with neurological conditions about their experiences accessing treatment, care and support.

The stark findings revealed the vast majority (81% of adults and 89% of children and young people) said their condition had made their mental wellbeing worse. Despite the best efforts of services and healthcare professionals across the country, over half (60% of adults and 52% of children and young people) said they hadn’t been asked about their mental wellbeing by a healthcare professional in the past three years.

James said: 

“This vital campaign highlights the issues that people with neurological conditions in the Vale of Clwyd are facing on a daily basis.

"We often need better services and support for the one in six people with a neurological condition.”
