Following a site visit today to learn more about ambitious and exciting proposals to develop the Queen’s Market in Rhyl, Vale of Clwyd MP James Davies has vowed to do everything within his power to help ensure the revival of the ailing town centre.
It was announced last year that the former arcade has received £5m towards a conversion into retail and food outlets, a market, offices and flats.
The project is being led by Denbighshire County Council, and this morning James joined Denbighshire Cabinet Members, Cllr Brian Jones and Cllr Tony Thomas, along with other politicians, including Welsh Deputy Minister for Housing and Local Government Hannah Blythin AM, who launched a new ‘Transforming Towns’ fund, for a tour of the site.
Speaking after the visit, James said:
“I was very pleased to be part of this week’s visit to the Queen’s Market buildings. It was great to see party politics put to one side for the good of Rhyl.
“The redevelopment scheme is being led by Denbighshire County Council, so I will be working closely with them to ensure that these proposals take off.
“Rhyl Town Centre has really struggled in recent years and I have believed for some time that the development of the Queen’s Market can provide a link with the improved seafront and deliver a boost to help it get back on its feet. However, this development alone cannot revive it, business rates and parking charges are also major issues which need addressing, and I will be doing everything within my power to deal with these two fundamental concerns for town centre businesses”.
