MP reacts to resignation of health board Chief Executive

Following today’s announcement that the Chief Executive of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Jo Whitehead, will be standing down in December, Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has thanked her for all she has done “to try to improve” the troubled health board.

In a statement made today, Jo Whitehead announced that she has brought forward her retirement plans due to family circumstances and will leave her post on 23 December 2022.

Commenting on the news, James said:

“I wish Jo and her family well for the future and thank her for all the efforts she has made to try to improve Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.  During Jo’s time here, I have found her to be approachable, engaging and caring but she has faced an almost impossible task – a culmination of 15+ years of bad decisions both locally and at Cardiff, compounded by the pandemic.

“Huge concerns remain at the state of devolved NHS services in North Wales and I will continue to work with colleagues at all levels to ensure the progress we all want to see is made.”
