MP promotes support service which helps people better manage their money

Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is keen for residents across the constituency to be aware of a service which can help them better manage their money and is also encouraging workers to check their wage is right.

The online ‘Money Helper’ service provides free advice tailored to where people live in the UK. A live chat service is also available.

While the government-sponsored site was first launched during the pandemic, it remains fully up to date and includes guidance on:

  • The issues people need to deal with first;
  • Ways of staying on top of bills;
  • How to find extra support people are entitled to; and
  • Where to get extra help.

James said:

“This website is a great resource for those needing to manage their money better and I would encourage people to take a look as I’m sure they will find it beneficial.”

James is also encouraging people to check they are receiving the right wage and to find out about tax reliefs and financial support available from HMRC.

James said:

“Two million workers, including apprentices, are eligible for the National Living and Minimum Wage. It's important all of them are getting the pay increase that came through on 1 April.

“A new BEIS (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy) campaign helps people check they are receiving the wages they are due, and encourages them to contact Acas for advice and report employers to HMRC if they are not. They can do this even if they no longer have that job: HMRC will not share their details with the employer and it takes just five minutes.

“For employees, the ‘Check your Pay’ website is the place to start. Employers looking for advice can book places at free HMRC/Acas webinars on 4 May and 10 May.”

You can check your pay on the following website: Check your pay – National Living and Minimum Wage (campaign.gov.uk)
