Politicians applaud £10m redevelopment at rural Denbighshire college

A £10m redevelopment at a leading land-based college has been applauded by two politicians who visited last week.

Clwyd West MS Darren Millar and Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies attended Coleg Llysfasi, near Ruthin, on Friday where they toured their new facilities, a state-of-the-art, 1,095 square metre carbon-neutral education complex which is being built by Wrexham-based Read Construction.

The modern facilities will include classroom and meeting spaces, a coffee shop, higher education centre, wellbeing hub and more.

The latest work follows the opening of the college’s £1.2million rural education centre three years ago,

Speaking after the visit, Darren said:

“Llysfasi was already an impressive establishment before this redevelopment, being the industry leaders in land-based education. They have a long-standing reputation in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Countryside and Forestry.

“As well as the new build, the overall revamp at Llysfasi includes landscaping and forest walks, and there will be bilingual information events and advice sessions to mentor local farmers looking to diversify and develop their own commercial processes.

“Although the redevelopment is not yet complete, it was good to see during our visit what has been done to date. It was quite clear that this is going to be an extremely impressive facility on completion, and I thank Coleg Cambria for making this investment which will benefit so many learners in North Wales.”

James said:

“It was great to have the opportunity to visit the college to see progress on the new facilities.

“The major redevelopment is extremely impressive and demonstrates Coleg Cambria’s commitment to fully supporting their learners and the wider agricultural community as they focus on sustainable farming for the future.

“Llysfasi’s provision of education relating to agriculture, agricultural engineering, countryside and forestry is very important to the local area.  .

“The new facility is due to open in October this year and I look forward to returning once it is open to see the finished works.”
